Halloween

Okay, so here I am, sitting in my office, hiding out from trick-or-treaters. I have all the lights out in the living room, only my lone desk lamp on so I can see the keyboard.

I feel sort of stupid. I didn't even think about buying candy.

And those little bastards are relentless, too. This one kid (or kids) knocked like three separate times trying to "wake the guy inside" so they could get some candy. Hello! I didn't answer the first time. What makes you think I'll answer the second or third time?

Halloween is dumb.

Consider...

Is Leonardo Dicaprio totally hot these days, or what?

FOTD

My first kiss happened in first grade. We were lined up outside waiting to come back to class from recess. The girl in line behind me, Della, had a crush on me, I guess. She tapped me on the shoulder, and when I turned around, she kissed me.

The other kids laughed. I was surprised, because Della and I really hadn't done much talking before this particular encounter. And we didn't actually talk much after. I guess because the kids picked on us. Peer presure can really ruin a love affair.

Plus, Della was black. I guess she had jungle fever.

FOTD

I go nuts when people borrow books of mine and bend the spine. Seriously nuts. I made a person by me anew copy of a book they'd broken the spine of. I just think it cheapens the look of a book to have a broken spine.
Addendum

So I was slightly scolded for my FOTD about the first boy I kissed and the first boyfriend. Why? Because I negelected to mention who the best boyfriend was.

Anyone who knows me even slightly knows who the best boyfriend would be. He's the reason I'm not some schmuck still living at my parents house without a steady job and a focus in life.

Shane's been the best boyfriend.

And he knows that.

JEFFREY???

What the fuck?

Seriously.

FOTD

The first guy I ever kissed was named Brian. (now calm down everyone who knows me, it's not THAT Brian.)

Brian was this guy I met out one night back in the days when I was an avid clubber. Anyway, he asked me to dance, and it was the first time a boy ever asked me to dance, so I danced with him. Then a slow song. Pearl Jam's Black. At the end of the song, he kissed me.

This did not turn into a relationship. Brian worked at the makeup counter at Masion Blanche (a high end department store which no longer exists), and he didn't really have anything interesting to say once the song finished. But he was cute (although his hair was bleached blonde, ick), and it was the first time I'd ever been scouted out.

Not long after that, I'd meet another guy on a night out, Guy David, and he'd end up being my first boyfriend. We didn't date for long, but he's still a really important person to me.

FOTD

Today's fact: I hate lettuce. Like, seriously hate lettuce. And it's not because of the taste (which isn't wonderful, but it doesn't necessariyl offend me.)

I hate lettuce because I can't stand the way it feels in my mouth and the way it sounds when you chew it. The texture drives me apeshit, and the sound it makes when you chew it, this crunchy veiny noise, just makes me gag.

Fact of the Day

I'm taking a cue from a friend's livejournal and giving me a reason to update my blog every day. My friend started putting a "fact of the day" on his livejournal -- some personal tidbit of information that most people dont know about him. It's informative, interesting, and sometimes frightening -- so I figured, "why not!"

So my first Fact of the Day:

When I watch TV, I tap out patterns on the buttons of the remote control, usually patterns on the numbers. Like 1-3-7-9-1-3-7-9-1-3-7-9 on and on and on. And I'll repeat the pattern over and over and over again the whole time I'm watching TV. Each time I watch TV, the pattern is different, but I have to have the remote in my hand and I have to tap some pattern out on the buttons.

Audra McDonald

So here's what I think about this bitch -- she's FABULOUS!

Ms. McDonald, for those who don't her (and shame on you) is a musical theatre actor with Four Tony Awards, several solo albums, and a voice that makes you wanna slap your mother. She's incredible. And her new album came out recently, and PBS aired her American Songbook concert on Live From Lincoln Center.

Check her out. Her new album is called "Build a Bridge" and it's wonderful. She records John Mayer's "My Stupid Mouth", Kermit the Frog's "Being Green" and Laura Lyro's "Tom Cat Goodbye" among other terrific songs. She's really got an eclectic taste in songs for her albums and every song is like a perfect little three-act play.

And doesn't she look, in this pic, like she's saying "Who me? Talented? No, not me. Really? Me?"
